Drug police seize $800K, amongst largest cash takes ever
Edmonton gang investigations end in cash, weapons and drug seizures
Edmonton gang police seized more than $800,000 in a drug bust last week, one of the biggest single cash seizures in city police history.
The seizure was part of six separate drug-trafficking investigations completed over a 10-day period this month, police say.
The biggest bust occurred last Friday when four locations were searched throughout the city with the majority of the cash found in a home near 167th Avenue and 111th Street.
The money was seized under the Victims Restitution and Compensation Payment Act and if successfully retained will be used to "compensate victims of crime and disrupt the business of organized crime," police said in a news release.
Four men between the ages of 22 to 35 face several drug-related charges.
Five other drug busts in separate investigations led to the arrest of seven more suspected traffickers.
During the busts police also seized seven guns, a Taser, another $100,000 in cash, and drugs with an estimated street value of $390,000.
