Driver using cellphone killed after running stop sign
A 40-year-old woman is dead following a crash at Baseline Road and Highway 216, or Anthony Henday Drive, just after 7 a.m. Monday.
The car ran the stop sign at Baseline Road on the northbound exit of Highway 216 just east of Edmonton and was broadsided by a semi tractor trailer, said Const. Wally Henry.
Preliminary investigation indicates that the woman, identified as Leslie Wolf of Devon, Alta., was talking on her cell telephone at the time of the crash, he said.
Wolf, the sole occupant of the car, was pronounced dead at the scene.
The 48-year-old truck driver from Edmonton was not hurt.
The intersection re-opened to traffic at 8:50 a.m
