A driver who was checking on the carcass of a deer he just hit on Highway 43 near Mayerthorpe, Alberta was seriously hurt himself when he was hit by a semi.

The victim was driving south with another man at 6:30 p.m. Sunday when they hit the deer, said RCMP.

They stopped and attended to the animal, but as the driver was getting back into his vehicle, he was clipped by a tractor-trailer also going south.

The truck continued on without stopping.

The victim was air lifted by  air ambulance to Edmonton where he was treated for a broken leg, hip and pelvis.

The only description available for the semi is that it was pulling a white cargo trailer with lots of orange and red lights down the side.

Anyone with information is asked to call police.
