A man who survived a grizzly bear attack near Jasper wants other mountain trail users to learn from what happened to him.

Etienne Cardinal was mountain biking by himself near Patricia Lake on Saturday evening when the bear came at him.

The bear ran away after biting into Cardinal's backpack and setting off bear spray that was strapped to the side. 

The Parks Canada employee shared his story because he wants people to properly prepare when using mountain trails.

“Don’t be complacent,” Cardinal advised, “it can happen. It’s very unlikely. But it can happen.”
