Deadly collision on Yellowhead
Edmonton police are investigating a deadly collision that happened just after 4:00 a.m. Saturday on Yellowhead Trail near 215th Street.
Police say a driver in an SUV heading west along Yellowhead Trail hit a teenage boy who was allegedly walking westbound down the centre of the highway.
The 17-year-old was given CPR at the scene but later died in hospital.
Police spokesperson Clair Seyler said the driver, a 34-year-old woman, was not injured but is "traumatized" by the incident.
"We don’t know if the young man was crossing [or] what he was doing on that road," she said, "but that’s going to be investigated by our traffic specialists."
Seyler said it is still early in the investigation, but that police have ruled out alcohol and speed as factors affecting the driver, and do not anticipate any charges being laid.
They are asking anyone who may have additional information to contact EPS.
