One person is dead and four others in hospital after a two-car crash south of Camrose, Alta., on Saturday afternoon.

Police say the crash happened just after noon on Highway 21, north of New Norway.

A Toyota travelling south crossed the centre line, hitting a Chevrolet driving in the opposite direction.

One person in the Toyota, identified only as a resident of Wetaskiwin, was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver of the Toyota, a 20-year-old man from Millet, was taken by air ambulance to the University of Alberta Hospital. The third person in the Toyota, a resident of Wetaskiwin, was taken to hospital in Camrose.

The two people in the Chevrolet, both from New Norway, were also taken to hospital in Camrose.

Police are investigating, with the assistance of an RCMP traffic analyst. Anyone with information is asked to contact Camrose RCMP at 780-672-3342.
