CN freight train derails north of Edmonton
The cars were carrying grain, and no one was injured
CN police are investigating after 16 train cars carrying grain derailed on Saturday in Fawcett, Alta.
The train was travelling southbound when it derailed at 2:30 a.m. Saturday, CN Rail spokeswoman Kate Fenske said in an email.
Fifteen of the cars piled up directly behind a house, while the remaining car was dragged behind the train until it stopped.
No one was injured and the cause of the derailment remains under investigation.
Range Road 13A, initially blocked by the derailment, has since reopened after crews worked to clean up the site.
Fawcett is around 140 kilometres north of Edmonton.
