On the first day of Edmonton's first winter weather parking ban, 247 vehicles were ticketed and at least 80 towed.

Nonetheless the city was happy with the level of compliance.

"There are still a few areas of concern in the west and southwest areas of the city, but overall we are extremely pleased with the level of compliance thus far," Director of Roadway Maintenance Bob Dunford said in a press release.

Once road crews clear residential bus routes, plows will move into neighbourhoods to blade to a level five centimetre snow pack, he said.

The parking ban went into effect at 7 a.m. and is expected to last at least until Monday
