City introduces new 311 smartphone app to report trouble spots
Reporting potholes, sidewalks, damaged trees and graffiti should be easier for Edmontonians now that the city has unveiled its new mobile app designed to streamline the process.
To report a trouble spot, Edmontonians who have installed the app onto their smartphone need only take a picture of the problem and upload it with a brief description. The phone’s internal GPS will do the rest.
The information and location will be forwarded automatically to Edmonton’s 311 contact centre for the city to follow up on.
“The Edmonton 311 App is another way that the City of Edmonton makes interacting with us easier,” said Mayor Don Iveson in a message released Monday.
“With this free mobile app citizens can be our eyes and ears. With just a few clicks on your phone, you can let us know where there is a problem.”
City officials say they will keep updating the app, and hope to expand on the number of issues that can be reported using it in the future.
The app is available for both iPhones and Android smartphones. If you don’t have a smartphone, you can still report any issues you see by calling 311 or visiting edmonton.ca/311.
