Christmas Day hostage-taking at Edmonton women's prison
Situation resolved with no harm to inmates or guards
Edmonton police are investigating after a hostage taking at the Edmonton Institution for Women Christmas Day.
A spokesperson for Correctional Service Canada said one inmate took another hostage around 8:30 Wednesday evening.
Staff intervened immediately, resolving the situation peacefully within about three hours. No staff members or inmates were hurt.
In addition to the police investigation, the CSC will also be looking into the incident.
The hostage taking occurred one day after a male inmate was killed at the Edmonton Remand Centre.
