Checkstops lead to more than 70 drunk driving arrests
Edmonton Police have made over 70 arrests for impaired driving during their December checkstop program.
"The message is the same year after year," said Staff Sgt. Barry Maron in a news release.
"If you drink, don’t drive. The checkstop enforcement program shows that people are still putting their life and the life of others at risk when they drive impaired."
Police launched the holiday checkstops at various locations around the city on Dec. 1.
Police are also trying to crack down on speeders. A recent enforcement blitz resulted in 830 drivers being charged in a single day.
