Speeding is believed to be the cause of a serious crash in north Edmonton that sent five people, including two teenagers, to hospital Wednesday afternoon.

Police believe a car was speeding west on 137th Avenue when it hit a SUV that was turning left at 123A Street at around 4:20 p.m. Wednesday.

The SUV rolled onto its roof, leaving a 13-year-old girl in critical condition, police said Thursday.

The 51-year-old driver of the SUV, as well as a 13-year-old boy in the same vehicle, were both sent to hospital. The man driving the car, 27, and his 30-year-old female passenger were also hurt. All four had non-life-threatening injuries.

The collision closed east and westbound lanes on 137th Avenue from 113A Street to 127th Street for several hours Wednesday.
