A woman is in hospital with life-threatening injuries after a serious collision in west Edmonton.

Police say the crash happened around 6 a.m. when a Toyota Corolla heading west along 111th Avenue ran a red light, colliding with a Dodge Ram that was headed southbound along 156th Street.

Both women inside the Corolla were taken to hospital. The 26-year-old passenger is currently listed in critical condition while the driver, a 25-year-old woman, has been treated for minor injuries.

The driver in the the Dodge Ram was not hurt.

Investigators are now looking into the cause of the crash, but say drug impairment may have been a factor.

Charges are pending against the Corolla’s driver.
