Charge laid in fatal hit and run
Police have charged a 19-year-old man in a fatal hit and run north of downtown Edmonton on Dec. 2.
A 25-year-old man from Wabasca, Alta. was walking on the road with four others around 1:30 a.m. when he was struck by a Pontiac Montana near 105 Avenue and 102 Street.
The man was taken to hospital with critical head injuries. He died two days later.
The vehicle was found abandoned near 105th AVenue and 96th Street. Police say information from the public helped with the investigation.
"We got numerous calls, tips coming in, all which helped us to identify our accused," said Sgt. Gary Lamont.
Surveillance video from the nearby Baccarat casino showed that the vehicle did not stop after striking the victim, Lamont said. The vehicle was not speeding.
The accused has been charged with failing to remain at the scene of a collision causing death.
