A 52-year-old woman is dead after a workplace accident near Rocky Mountain House.

The woman was run over Monday morning by a skid steer, a bobcat with a bucket attached, said Brookes Merritt, spokesperson for Alberta Occupational Health and Safety.

"The operator of that loader was transporting a couple of compressed air tanks," he said. "They weigh about 100 pounds each and the operator put the skid steer in reverse, started to reverse the machine, and drove over the female worker and unfortunately the worker suffered fatal head injuries."

Provincial investigators have been to the scene, Merritt said.

The workers were employees of Newcart Contracting, a business that is located near Rocky Mountain House.

The victim's name has not been released.
