CBC Edmonton continues towards its goal of $500,000 in the 18th annual Turkey drive in aid of Edmonton's Food Bank.

Generous donors contributed a whopping $300,000 on Blitz Day yesterday, bringing the tally to more than $487,000.

"When we doubled our goal to raise half a million dollars for hungry people in our city, we knew it was a lot to ask." said CBC Edmonton managing director Judy Piercey. "But our approach was taken in the true spirit of Edmonton:

"We asked for help from our friends, neighbours, schools and leaders in many communities and businesses," she said. "I'm proud of our city and the role CBC played to make a difference to children, women and men who need help getting food on the table."

While CBC is no longer taking in-person donations at our CBC station, donations can still be made online or at Edmonton's Food Bank at 11508-120 Street.

Edmonton AM host Mark Connolly presented he 2013 Turkey Spirit Awards to two donors this morning. Landmark Group of Builders won the corporate Turkey Spirit Award for a donation of $40,100, while Holyrood Elementary School won the school Junior Turkey Spirit Award for a donation of $30,125.
