A car smashed through the window of a restaurant in north Edmonton around 9:30 a.m. Sunday.

The car took out the entire storefront of the New York Pizza and Donair, located at 97th Street and 118th Avenue.

Const. Rob Brown with the EPS downtown division said the timing of the crash was fortunate.

“There was hardly any cars, no pedestrian traffic. Luckily the business wasn’t open so there [were]s no reported injuries.”

Brown said police are now trying to figure out why the driver drove into the building.

“That investigation is still pending. We haven't received all the witness statements regarding what occurred.”

Police have determined that alcohol was not a factor in the crash.
