Car buyer robbed of $3,200 after responding to online ad
Man, 23, was robbed of cash he brought to buy the vehicle, police say
A 23-year-old man was robbed at knifepoint on Wednesday after responding to a fake vehicle-for-sale ad on Kijiji, Edmonton police say.
When the man and his friend went to a spot near 32nd Street and 16A Avenue around 9 p.m., three suspects with knives stole the $3,200 in cash he brought to buy the vehicle.
The suspects also stole his Suburu WRX which they abandoned two blocks away before taking off in a green, late-model sedan with tinted windows.
The theft comes three days after an Edmonton man was kidnapped and driven to Calgary after meeting with what he thought were prospective buyers for the vehicle he had listed on Kijiji.
The man was able to get away and call Calgary Police. Two men were later arrested in Red Deer.
Police are urging people to take precautions and go to their Crime Prevention site for ways to stay safe when selling things online.
