The 19-year-old Edmonton woman made famous after a hospital visit by Justin Bieber last year has passed away.

In a message released on Facebook Wednesday night, Crystal Montgomery’s mother wrote, “Our beautiful angel Crystal Amber Montgomery decided tonight was the night. She is free of pain. We will forever love her and never forget her. Crystal, you are going to be the most happiest angel."

Crystal Montgomery received a surprise visit from Justin Bieber last October after her friends waged a Twitter campaign on her behalf. (Instagram)

The announcement triggered a flood of tributes that have been pouring in online for the young woman who did everything to remain positive about her battle.

"I just try to have a good time, just try to keep that smile on my face, and just try to keep positive as much as I can, and a lot of it comes from the family that I am with," Montgomery said in October 2012.

Diagnosed with bone cancer at age 18, Montgomery was thrust into the spotlight last year after an online campaign started by her friends on Twitter caught the singer’s attention.

Her dream of meeting him came true when he surprised Montgomery with a visit while in town for a concert.
