A 12-year-old boy from Beaverlodge, Alta. has been charged with assault with a weapon after two people were shot in the face with a pellet gun.

Cpl. Carol McKinley of the RCMP says a 62-year-old man was out walking his dog on Sept. 26 when something hit him in the face, breaking his glasses and slightly cutting his right cheek.

After he returned home to get first-aid from his wife, the couple returned to the area where the man was shot to find his glasses.

At that point, the wife, 59, was shot above her left eye by the pellet gun, McKinley said. Both are recovering from their injuries.

"Definitely, there is potential for greater injury, particularly if they had been hit in a different area of the body or closer to the eye," McKinley said.

The youth will appear in court Nov. 29.

Beaverlodge is about 480 kilometres northwest of Edmonton.
