Two men and two women face assault charges after an axe fight in the basement of a home near Bonnyville, Alta., this week.

RCMP were called about two men fighting with axes in Kehewin on Monday evening around 9:30 p.m. When they arrived, police found a 31-year-old Kehewin man with several injuries to his back and arms.

The other man, a 35-year-old from Edmonton, had fled to a nearby home where he was found with injuries to his face.

Two women, aged 18 and 35, were also arrested.

Witnesses told police that both men had hit each other with axes, and at one point both the women had held down the 31-year-old man so the other could strike him with an axe.

The men were treated for their injuries at the Bonnyville Health Center and taken into custody.

Bonnyville is 240 kilometres northeast of Edmonton.
