One woman is dead and another in critical condition after a crash on Whitemud Drive at Sunday night.
Just before 9:30 p.m., a truck slammed into a small car carrying four seniors at the intersection of Whitemud Drive and 215 Street.
The two men and two women in the car — all in their 70s — were taken to hospital, however one 72-year-old woman died before arriving.
The second woman remains in critical but stable condition, while the two men had non-life-threatening injuries.
The 63-year-old driver of the truck was not hurt, but faces charges of impaired driving causing death and refusing to provide a breath sample.
Police are also checking to see if the traffic lights at the intersection were working as a fallen tree had caused a power outage in the area.
The woman's death is the 20th collision fatality in the city this year.
