Employers wondering about the qualifications of foreign workers can now check their credentials with a provincial government website.

The site, announced Tuesday by Employment and Immigration Minister Thomas Lukaszuk, provides comparisons of academic credentials in the foreign countries with the highest number of immigrants to Alberta, including China, India and the Philippines.

Lukaszuk said the tool will be valuable to small and medium-sized businesses.

"You will be able to go into a list of countries — and we will be growing the list of countries — and see what their equivalents are, what the education system is like," he said.

More foreign workers will be needed as Alberta's economy continues to grow, Lukaszuk said.
