Alberta lost 11,000 jobs in March
Alberta lost 11,000 jobs in March, a figure Statistics Canada said is the first "notable" decline in over two years.
The province’s unemployment rate is still the lowest in the country -- 4.8 per cent in March, a rise of 0.3 percentage points over the February figure.
Statistics Canada reports that the Canadian economy lost 54,500 jobs in March.
In Edmonton, the unemployment rate dropped to 4.2 per cent in March from 4.4 per cent in February.
In Calgary, the unemployment rate went up slightly -- 5.1 per cent in March, compared to 5.0 per cent in February.
Year-over-year figures show Alberta saw an employment growth of 1.7 per cent.
