A 37-year-old man faces firearms charges after a six-year-old child fired a rifle that was left in a vehicle near Fox Creek.

RCMP in Fox Creek say a 37-year-old man faces firearms charges after a six-year-old child fired a rifle that was left in a vehicle.

Police say the parents left three children, aged one through six, in the vehicle while they went into a house on Saturday afternoon.    

They say a gun was left on the passenger seat and the eldest child fired it. It discharged out the driver's-side door.

Police say no one was hurt. 

The man is charged with unsafe storage of firearms, unauthorized possession of a firearm, possession of a firearm in a motor vehicle, and possession of a restricted firearm with ammunition without a license/registration.

The man is also charged with child endangerment. He will make his first appearance in Fox Creek provincial court next month. 

RCMP are not releasing the man's name in order to protect the identity of the children.
