5 things to do in Edmonton this weekend
Whether your tastes skew towards bacon or fresh vegetables, museums at night or performances in the park, we've got something for you to do this weekend.
What? A new Edmonton festival promising to celebrate all we hold dear — AKA bacon — is happening this weekend in Old Strathcona. Your ticket to Baconfest will get you 10 bacon-bits of food, a bacon-drink or two, an aerial bacon-themed performance by Firefly Theatre and a free bacon gift bag. Six food trucks — all featuring menus heavy on the bacon — will also be on hand Friday night outside the ATB Financial Arts Barn (10330 - 84th Avenue) when What the Truck descends on BaconFest.
When? July 4 from 5:30 p.m. to Midnight (two seatings); What the Truck will be on site from 5-10 p.m.

Performances in the street
What? Out with one art act and in with the next! The 30th annual Edmonton International Street Performers Festival will kick off in Churchill Square on Friday — just days after The Works wrapped up for the season. More than 1,500 original, outdoor performances by musicians, jugglers, acrobats and more from around the world. Just don’t forget to bring a pocketful of change to throw in the hat afterwards!

Savour the flavour
What? Sherwood Park will become a hub of local food and gourmet cuisine this weekend when the Community Centre (2001 - Sherwood Drive) opens its doors to Savour Strathcona County. Chefs from 13 local restaurants will be on hand to whip up tasty treats made from fresh ingredients as artists and artisans sell their wares nearby. Best part? Admission is free.
