Three teens from southern Alberta are in hospital after a rollover Thursday night west of Red Deer.

The teens were in a car reported stolen from Vulcan, Alta., earlier in the day, when the 16-year-old male driver lost control on the Calgary and Edmonton Trail, crossed the centre line and drove into the ditch, hitting a tree.

The driver, from Vulcan, was taken to hospital in Red Deer with critical injuries before being air lifted to the University Hospital in Edmonton.

Two male passengers — a 16 year old from Champion, Alta. and an 18-year-old from High River, Alta., were taken to hospital with serious injuries.

Police said alcohol was not a factor in the collision, but speed and driver distraction were.

No charges have yet been laid.
