Strathcona RCMP are looking for two missing men as part of their investigation of a burned body found before Christmas.
Police are looking for missing businessmen Dino Kaz, 42, from Edmonton, and Brent Abbott, 36, from Saskatoon, in connection with the discovery of the body of a man found in a burned building on an acreage east of Sherwood Park, Alta., on Dec. 19.
The last reported sighting of Abbott was in the Edmonton area on Dec. 17. Kaz was last seen on Dec. 18, also in the Edmonton area. Friends and family haven't seen or heard from the men since.
Kaz is believed to have frequented the rural property where the remains were found, and both men know the owner of the property.
"They ran in the same circle of friends and definitely knew each other fairly well. Whether they're together now or whether their disappearance is linked, that's something that has yet to be determined," said Const. Wally Henry, an RCMP spokesman.
"What our objective is right now is trying to track down these two individuals, Number 1, to ensure that their welfare is OK, that there's no issues there, and then see what, if any, connection there is to the fire."
The men drove a Green 2000 Ford F150 pickup truck with a regular cab, long box and front-end damage on the passenger side, police said. The truck is registered under Kaz's name and has the Saskatchewan licence plate 207 HTR, which is registered to Abbott.
An autopsy was performed on the body found near Sherwood Park, but police are not releasing information about the cause of death. The identity of the deceased hasn't been determined, police said.
