Two young men have been charged after a police pursuit last week near Meeting Creek, Alta., that ended only after an officer fired shots at the suspects' car.
The incident began around 4:20 p.m. on July 17 when RCMP officers responded to a firearms complaint near Camrose, a police release said Wednesday.
The officers found the suspect vehicle, but the driver refused to stop, the release said. There was a lengthy pursuit that resulted in an officer firing his handgun at the vehicle when the suspect drove toward him.
The officer fired his gun because he felt his life was threatened by the actions of the other driver, the release said.
The chase ended when the suspect vehicle crashed into a bridge, and its occupants fled, police said.
Two male suspects were located with the help of the RCMP dog and emergency response teams. Paramedics treated the suspects at the scene for injuries inflicted by the police dog. They were later taken to St. Mary’s Hospital in Camrose for further treatment.
The pair faces numerous charges related to the pursuit and firearm offences.
