13-year-old Alberta girl charged with cocaine possession
A 13-year-old girl has been charged with possession of crack cocaine after Alberta RCMP officers searched a home in the northeasterntown of Bonnyville.
The girl and five other children between one and 17 years old who were living in the home, 240 kilometres northeast of Edmonton,are now in the custody of social services.
Police executed a search warrant at the house Tuesday night and found 37 grams of crack cocaine with a street value of more than $3,000, as well as $2,000 in cash.
Lloyd Desjarlais, 68, has been charged with possessing cocaine for the purpose of trafficking. Two women, ages 24 and 45 and the mothers of the children, also face the same charge.
"We used to have crystal meth quite bad, but now crack cocaine has come back into the community," said Staff Sgt. David Elliott of the Bonnyville RCMP.
Elliott said the teenage girl was allegedly found with one gram of the drug.
