There are over 900 Islanders waiting for a family doctor. Now, with the death of Doctor Don Taylor, the P.E.I. department of health says that number will grow even more.
The latest number is nearly triple the 250 people on the list in September of 1999.
P.E.I.'s government set up the patient registry in 1997 to match Islanders who don't have a doctor with a family physician.
Dr. Taylor, who died in a single-vehicle accident over the weekend, had more than 2,000 patients.
The health department says some will be dispersed to other doctors, while the vast majority will end up on the patient registry.
Right now there are seven openings for family physicians on P.E.I.
