A published report says more than 200 workers at Walt Disney Animation Canada are losing their jobs.

The report says the company is closing its studios in Toronto and Vancouver because of corporate cost-cutting. Financial returns were weak this past year.

The National Post says the Toronto employees have been told their jobs will end in early March.

Four years ago, Disney opened its Canadian operation to tap into the talent pool that did not want to leave the country.

Studios here have produced Beauty and the Beast, The Enchanted Christmas and a home video sequel to The Little Mermaid.
