Vancouver's political left party has added a former Non-Partisan-Association councillor to its slate.

COPE or the Committee of Progressive Electors, has endorsed Nancy Chiavario. She was one of two incumbent councillors dumped by the NPA.

David Cadman heads COPE. He says bringing Chiavario to the COPE slate is part of a move away from the far left.

"What we've done here is we've entered a broader alliance, which is a more moderate alliance. And we've tried to bring in new people who represent a view that is best for Vancouver," says Cadman.

Cadman adds his party also spoke with deposed NPA councillor Alan Herbert, but only had room for one new candidate on its slate. Herbert says he'll run as an independent.
