A young woman’s death over the weekend was caused by street drugs she had taken, police believe.

The 22-year-old and a friend went to a downtown nightclub on Friday night where they drank and took a number of drugs, including ecstasy.

Just before 4 a.m. MT on Saturday paramedics were called to a house in Cranston for reports of a woman in medical distress.

She died a short time later in hospital. Her friend was also taken to hospital in non-life threatening condition.

An autopsy is scheduled for this week.

“Police remind the public that there is no such thing as a safe street drug,” officials said in a release.

Investigators are asking anyone with information to call police or Crime Stoppers.
