Young woman hit by CP Rail train in Olds
18-year-old female from Bowden was sitting on tracks with boyfriend when hit
A young woman was hit by a CP Rail train early Sunday morning in Olds.
RCMP say the 18-year-old was sitting on the tracks with her boyfriend around 3 a.m. MT Sunday when the train approached.
The train engineer reportedly saw the two on the tracks and blew the horn to warn them off.
While they began to move out of the way, the female was hit by the front step of the train that leads up to the control room on the front motor coach.
The train stopped and emergency services were called to the scene.
The female was taken to Olds Hospital with head injuries and later flown to Foothills Hospital by STARS air ambulance.
RCMP say her injuries are serious but are not believed to be life-threatening at this time.
Alcohol was a factor in the incident, as RCMP say both the young woman and her boyfriend were drunk.
The matter is still under investigation.
