Young girl injured, pit bull shot by police in separate dog attacks
A three-year-old girl was treated in hospital after being bitten in the face by a dog Tuesday night in the backyard of her home in the southwest Calgary communtiy of Bridlewood.
EMS transported her in stable, non-life-threatening condition to the South Calgary Urgent Care Centre in Sundance with facial injuries.
The little girl had gone into the yard with a family friend's mastiff.
"A few minutes later, the family heard a bark and the child crying,” says Animal and Bylaw Services manager Alvin Murray.
The dog has since been seized and charges are pending against the owner.
Pit bull shot by police in Dover
A pit bull died after being shot by police overnight when officers were called to a home in the Dover area.
They were talking to the residents of the home when the pit bull ran outside and attacked an officer, say police.
No one was seriously hurt, but the dog was shot and had to be put down.
