Calgary police and bylaw officers are investigating after a young girl was bitten by a dog in the city's northwest Sunday morning.

Officers were called to the 7200 block of Silver Mead Road just before 11 a.m.

The five-year-old girl was taken to the Alberta Children's Hospital suffering from a number of bites, but police say her injuries are not life threatening.

Duty Insp. Darren Leggett says two dogs were found running at large in the neighbourhood, and are in the custody of animal services.

The involvement of the second dog is still under investigation.
