Calgary's Chinese community is celebrating the Year of the Horse this weekend and is inviting the public to come and experience the festivities.

The Calgary Chinese Cultural Centre will host a variety of activities and events over Saturday and Sunday.

This year's theme project is what's called a "bun fun" tree — a tree-like construction with more than 2,000 Chinese buns stamped with different characters.

Translated the characters offer three different wishes for the person selecting them: safe and sound, propitious and good fortune.

There will also be large dragon and lion dances performed by Jing Wo Cultural Association and the Canadian Honan Shaolin Wushu Association.

The celebrations take place at 197 First Street S.E. from 10 a.m. MT to 6 p.m. on Saturday, and 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. on Sunday.
