Police say a woman is dead after being hit by a vehicle in downtown Calgary.

As of 4:37 p.m. MT, police have confirmed to CBC News that reports of her being in critical condition are incorrect. Police initially said shortly before 4:00 p.m. that she had died then updated that to critical condition at 4:15 p.m.

The incident happened Sunday in Chinatown after the woman, in her 80s, stepped off the curb against the light and was hit by a pickup truck just after 10 a.m. MT.

Centre Street was closed between Second Avenue and Fourth Avenue S.E. earlier Sunday but has since re-opened.
