A third person has been arrested in connection with last week’s brutal beating in Calgary’s Beltline neighbourhood, police said Monday.

Chantelle Tiffany Campbell, 27, has been charged with one count of aggravated assault in relation to the May 23 beating.

Police believe John Fernando Herrera was walking home with his groceries when he was assaulted, unprovoked.

Herrera is still in life-threatening condition after the assault, on Sixth Street at 15th Avenue S.W.

Two Calgary men in their 20s have already been charged in connection to the assault.

Garrett Elliott Lee Smith, 26, and Jarod Donald Henry, 22, were arrested Friday and each face a charge of aggravated assault.

Investigators executed search warrants on a vehicle and two homes in the community of Huntington Hills, which led to the arrests.

Those charges could be upgraded if the injured man dies.

The Calgary homicide unit continues to investigate and is asking any witnesses to come forward.
