Whitecourt sees outages after logging truck hits power lines
Logging truck went off commercial vehicles route and caught caught in power lines
People in Whitecourt are seeing intermittent power outages Sunday after a logging truck knocked down power lines.
RCMP say the collision happened around 10:30 a.m. MT when the truck drove off the commercial vehicles route and onto 51 Street and 50 Avenue. The truck got tangled up in power lines, knocking them down and causing on and off outages.
"Fortis crews as well as EastLink are out trying to get the power up and running again," said Const. Jason Curtis with Airdrie RCMP. "
All 911 communications and communications for police and fire crews are still working, he said.
There were no injuries in the incident but RCMP say the driver has been charged under the Highway Traffic Act for taking a commercial vehicle into an area not set up for large trucks.
