Water damage, mould keep federal building closed
The Harry Hays building in downtown Calgary is closed this week, frustrating people turning up to access federal services.
Tom Corrigan, a spokesman for Services Canada, said the building has been closed since Saturdaydue to water damage and they are investigating mould found in the passport office.
Maria Casanovik needs to pay her taxes, but on Monday she found a small sign on the locked door saying the building was closed due to flood damage.
"I find it very frustrating that it is closed and there is no information further as to what to do," she said.
Emeka Utulu, who just arrived from Nigeria and needs a social insurance number, didn't know where to go next.
"I landed about two days ago and I want to make this thing as soon as possible … and there's no information at all so I am disappointed," he said.
The buildingis expected to reopen by next Monday, but meanwhile there are five satellite offices in the city offering access to federal services.
