Violent sex attacker gets 20 years, declared dangerous offender
A serial violent attacker, found guilty of a number of sex assaults and robberies over the last two decades, has been declared a dangerous offender.
Cory Bitternose was sentenced to 20 years in prison Friday for more than a dozen offences, including sex assaults and kidnapping.
Bitternose recently plead guilty to kidnapping and assaulting two women in Banff in 2008.
Rather than handing down an indeterminate sentence, Justice Barb Veldhuis opted for a fixed jail sentence and 10 years of community supervision after.
"There's no question the conduct was cruel and vicious and showed disregard for human life," said Veldhuis.
Bitternose and his mother sobbed as the Veldhuis read the verdict.
