A violent sexual assault that took place last year has Calgary police asking for the public for help.

Police say a woman was walking around 3 a.m. MT Nov. 24 when she was approached by a man in a vehicle who stopped to speak to her near 14th Avenue and Second Street southwest.

She asked him for a ride home, but instead he drove her north of the city limits where he physically and sexually assaulted her.

The victim was able to get out of the vehicle, but police say the man then drove after her and tried to run her down.

"She did fight her way out," said Insp. Monty Sparrow, adding the driver was then distracted by another vehicle and took off.

The suspect is described as a heavy male, possibly of South Asian descent, between the age of 35 and 40.

Police say he was driving an older model dark green four-door Ford Taurus. Anyone with information on the identity of the man is asked to call Crime Stoppers or police at 403-266-1234.
