Veterans gather for Wounded Warriors weekend in Slave Lake
Annual event began 2 years ago in Saskatchewan
More than 200 veterans from around the world will be in Slave Lake this weekend for a reunion, celebrations and some healing.
The Wounded Warrior event started two years ago in Saskatchewan and is designed to bring more support to veterans. Since it began, organizers say the event has created friendships, brought families closure and strengthened veterans.
"For every one that's lost a limb or an arm or a leg, there's another hundred that have lost their souls," said Blake Emmons, an air force veteran and founder of the event. "It's giving them back self-esteem, for lack of a better word, and finding out that they're not alone."
Veterans from the United States, Australia and the United Kingdom will be attending the event.
