Vehicle collides with train west of Gleichen, Alta., closing highway

A vehicle has collided with a train west of Gleichen, Alta. partially derailing it and closing Highway 901 in both directions as emergency crews responded to the incident Wednesday afternoon, RCMP tell CBC News.

A semi-truck has collided with a train west of Gleichen, Alta. partially derailing the train and closing Highway 901 in both directions as emergency crews responded on Wednesday afternoon, RCMP tell CBC News.

Police say there are no injuries and nothing has spilled but they warned motorists to avoid the area at the time.

The trailer of the truck was destroyed, spreading debris across the highway.

Alberta Transportation tweeted about the collision at 1:46 p.m.

Police rerouted traffic in the afternoon.

Gleichen is a hamlet about 94 kilometres southeast of Calgary.
