Seven people were displaced after a fire significantly damaged their Taradale home Saturday evening.

The Calgary Fire Department said it received reports of a building on fire around 7 p.m. MT on Tarawood Road N.E.

When crews got to the scene, they found a two-storey, single family home with thick black smoke rising from the back.

A resident told firefighters that everyone in the home got out safely.

Fire crews located the fire in the basement of the house and put it out.

A family of three, along with four guests, were upstairs when the fire started. They were able to find another place to stay.

Fire crews said the home suffered significant damage and the family won't be able to return until major repairs have been made.

The fire is still under investigation.
