Two people were rescued from an avalanche Monday afternoon at Sunshine Village in Banff National Park.

The avalanche happened shortly after 2 p.m. on Delirium Dive, an in-bounds ski area where skiers must have a partner and be equipped with avalanche gear, said Crosbie Cotton, a spokesman for Sunshine Village.

"An investigation is underway and there is no additional details," he said.

Stuart Brideaux with Calgary Emergency Medical Services says one person is in serious condition in the Banff hospital. The other patient has been upgraded to stable condition.

STARS air ambulance was called to assist but couldn't respond because of the weather, so a private helicopter company was called in to assist.

Officials have not released the names or ages of the skiers.
