Calgary police say the death of a woman found in the middle of a southwest road this week is suspicious.
Police were called to 15th Avenue and 15th Street at about 4 a.m. MT Wednesday by a taxi driver who discovered the body.
An autopsy confirmed 19-year-old Polina Kazanceva from Toronto died of blunt force trauma.
Police are now trying to determine whether she was hit by a vehicle or something else.
"We're keeping an open mind and looking at all possibilities," says Staff Sgt. Doug Andrus. "We're now trying to establish the manner of death."
Detectives have already spoken with her family and friends and are now trying to determine the events that led to her death.
Police believe she was in Calgary visiting friends.
Anyone with information is asked to contact the Calgary police homicide tip line at 403-428-8877.
Not connected to abandoned Cadillac, say police
Police say Kazanceva's death is not connected to a badly-damaged white Cadillac abandoned near 12th Avenue and First Street S.W. at about the same time.
There were no witnesses at the scene and police are still trying to determine the events leading up to this incident. The traffic unit is leading the investigation, and has interviewed the driver.
