A Calgary woman is screening her calls after getting a "questionable" request to donate to the federal Conservatives.

Sheryl Jang says she received a phone call from someone who asked her some questions about where she lived, ranted about the Liberal Party getting bigger and then asked for $200 — money the caller said Jang would partially get back.

"When you make a donation, you make a donation of a 100 per cent, but we send you back 75 per cent of that to your credit card, or to your bank account, whichever one you want to use," Jang said, describing the conversation.

"You also get a tax receipt that you can use for the 100 per cent, even though you already got the 75 per cent back."

Jang says the call left her feeling very uncomfortable.

But a party spokesperson says it was a legitimate fundraising call and Jang may have misunderstood the pitch.

"The recipient was informed of the 75 per cent tax credit available to all federal political donations," said Conservative Party spokesperson Cory Hann.

Political scientist Lori Williams says the language used by the caller was unacceptable and, considering Jang has never donated to a party before, there are other concerns too about why she was contacted.
